Fall Membership Meeting

By admin | November 18, 2007

In September 4, 2007, our Club held its annual membership meeting at the Strike Zone in Brunswick.  Approximately 60 club members gathered for the dinner meeting that included guest speakers from Auburn and a Silent Auction to raise money for our Scholarship Drive.

As our first general membership meeting of 2007, everyone enjoyed a lively social hour and barbeque dinner served by The Pit Barbeque Restaurant.  Our second annual Silent Auction offered 49 individual items valued at from $7 to $399.  We were able to raise $2400 that helped us reach our scholarship goal of $6000 for the year.

Meet AU’s new President, Dr. Jay Gogue

By admin | July 17, 2007

War Eagle everyone!!  Today is an important day in the AU family.  Dr. and Mrs. Jay Gogue are now officially “home.”  The president has “hit the ground listening” as he promised to do!  There are some other bits of news that I wanted to pass along.  Some of this has gotten around I am sure, but I wanted to be sure you saw these things:  Meet AU’s new President, Dr. Jay Gogue Some of today’s highlights from Dr. Gogue’s first AU day!http://www.auburn.edu/administration/president/gettoknow.html

Auburn University exceeds campaign goal nine months early
Auburn University has surpassed its $500 million “It Begins at Auburn” Campaign goal with a $5 million gift from Raymond and Kathryn Harbert of Birmingham. The gift brings the campaign total to $504,657,718, the largest amount of private dollars ever raised in the state of Alabama. Though this milestone has been reached, the campaign will continue until its previously announced conclusion date of March 31, 2008. “We are accomplishing our goal through the help of the entireAuburn family,” said AU President Ed Richardson. “This campaign will help fund countless scholarships and bring more nationally recognized faculty to Auburn University.

Its positive impact on Alabama is significant and will be felt for many years.” To read the news release, visit http://wireeagle.auburn.edu/news/148. High Def Scoreboard in Jordan-Hare Stadium   The word is probably out there about the new scoreboard…but a great article about what we can expect when we come see the Tigers play!http://www.al.com/auburn/mobileregister/index.ssf?/base/sports/1184318211284420.xml&coll=3

Dates for future West Virginia Games Swapped     The original plan for the home and home football games with West Virginia was to have the game in Auburn in 2008 andMorgantown, WV in 2009.  Now AU travels to UWV in 2008 with UWV coming to the Plains in 2009.     I understand the Philly AU club has already started dreaming of a road trip to Morgantown! http://www.al.com/auburn/mobileregister/index.ssf?/base/sports/118405920414940.xml&coll=3

Club News

By admin | July 17, 2007

Hi,

We wanted to update everyone on the latest news about our club.  I know it appears that nothing is going on but we have been working on several different things that appear are now about to come together.

First of all this week progress has been made in obtaining speakers for our “Spring Meeting”.  The Alumni Office has confirmed that we (along with many others) will not have a speaker from the football coaching staff.  However, several people associated with athletics as well as academics were discussed as possibilities.  All of them have spoken at other clubs and have been well received.  I know that some will be disappointed that no coaches will be here to speak especially since we have been told since February that this would happen.  However, we do feel that we will have a fun and informative meeting and encourage everyone to support our club and attend.  We are looking at mid August for the meeting and just as soon as we have a firm date from Auburn we’ll let you know.

Secondly, we have received notification that our 2007 scholarship recipient is Adam Chapman.  He is planning to major in architecture.

Debbie spoke with him as he was pulling into Auburn for Camp War Eagle and he was very excited and grateful for the scholarship.  Adam’s home address is 160 Hardwood Forest Drive, Brunswick, Ga. 31525 and phone number is 912-506-1234.  His Auburn email address is acc0003@auburn.edu.  I know he would enjoy hearing from you.

Since we will be having our meeting next month we have decided to postpone our family picnic until a later date.  We also are working on a Tigers Night Out for September so keep the 10th open for this get together and we’ll notify you of the location.

Jeannie Jacobs has been working hard to put together a Community Project with Hospice.  At this time we will be making a monetary donation in the amount of $500.00.  At a later time we may have a work day where we’ll assist in landscaping the addition they are building.

We are sad to see Amy Lewallen leave us for North Carolina where she will be a counselor at a girl’s camp.  Amy has been a very loyal, dependable, and hard worker for our club.  She always brought fresh ideas and great experience to the table and we’ll miss her as well as her contribution to our club.

Thanks to everyone for your support of the club as well as Auburn.

War Eagle,

Deborah and Debbie
